Camping theme for 2 year olds: a week of activities

A camping theme lesson plan for 2 year olds: what a day looks like, then the week's circle time (about five minutes, standing up for the song), books, craft, song, snack, letter and outside time, each with what changes at this age.

A day of the camping theme with 2 year olds

  1. Arrival, hands washed, free play.
  2. Circle (about five minutes): hello song, then “What would you pack to go camping?” and sing “all through the night”.
  3. Craft with a grown-up pouring and cutting: paper tent.
  4. Snack: No-Bake S'mores.
  5. Outside: blanket camp.
  6. Read Not Yet, Ted, the same book again tomorrow.
  7. Rest, then color the letter C picture page.

Camping circle time

  1. Good morning song, then say each name together.
  2. Calendar: the day, the date and the weather.
  3. Ask: “What would you pack to go camping?”
  4. Sing: All Through the Night.
  5. Read: Not Yet, Ted (level 3).

Twos: about five minutes; stand up for the song.

Camping theme books

  • Not Yet, Ted (level 3, free on peabody.kids): Bedtime, for the night-outside talk.
  • Go, Go, Go (read aloud, level 4): A read-aloud: going places.
  • The Little Lantern (read aloud, level 6): A read-aloud: a small light at night.
  • The Moon Follows Me (read aloud, level 6): A read-aloud: the moon over the road.

Camping craft: Paper tent

You need (4): a card folded in half, crayons, a paper flap door, glue stick.

  1. Stand the folded card up as a tent.
  2. Color it and glue on the door.
  3. Draw who is sleeping inside.

With a grown-up. No heat, nothing hot.

Twos: a grown-up pours the paint and holds the glue.

Camping snack

Swap: Graham crackers → gluten-free graham-style crackers.

Letter C activities

CcC is for camp. Print the two pages (a trace page and a color page).

Twos: the picture page only; color it and say the word.

Outside activity: Blanket camp

Drape a blanket over a table or a rope as a tent. Take turns inside with a flashlight and a book.
