Reading groups board
A screen for guided reading: groups made from your class list, a bar timer for each round, a Whisper work symbol, a noise light and a note for the groups at their seats.
How to use it
- Open Class list above the board and paste your names, one per line. They stay in this browser.
- Press Make groups. The groups are dealt one at a time; open the gear to choose how many groups, or groups of a set size.
- Press Start on the timer for the first round. When it ends, the next group comes to your table; press Reset and Start.
Ideas for class
- Leave the groups on the board for the whole week so children can find their group without asking.
- Set the timer to the length of one guided-reading round, such as 15 minutes, in its gear.
- Keep the work symbol on Whisper while groups read at their seats, and switch it to Listen when you talk to the whole class.
- Press Listen on the noise light so the room can see when reading voices get too loud.
- Write what the groups at their seats should do in the note, so they don't interrupt your table.
- Make new groups each week, or keep the same ones for a reading unit.

Questions
Where do the group names come from?
From the Class list panel above the board. The groups stay on this board in this browser, and a link or file you share leaves them out unless you tick Include names.
Can I keep two children apart?
The board makes balanced random groups. For groups with keep-apart and keep-together rules, use the group maker at /groups and type the groups into a note.
Does the noise light record the room?
No. It measures loudness in the browser as a number from 0 to 100, and nothing is recorded, kept or sent. It only listens after you press Listen.
