Countdown to a date
Pick a date and see the days to go, big enough for the board. The link carries the date, so it opens the same on any computer.
Pick a date below and the days to go appear here.
The link in your address bar carries this date, so Share opens the same countdown. School breaks differ by district, so type your own dates; the holiday buttons are worked out from their rules for the current year.
How to use it
- Choose a date in the Date box, or press one of the holiday buttons. Type a name if you like.
- The big number is the days from today. Under it you see weeks and days, and the weekdays (Monday to Friday) before the date.
- Press Share to copy a link that opens this countdown. Press F for full screen on the projector.
Ideas for class
- Count down to the last day of school, a field trip, a performance or a test.
- Use the daily number as a subtraction problem: what will it be on Friday?
- Show it on the first day back from a break to discuss how long the stretch is.
- Count down to a class goal such as finishing a read-aloud book or a big project.
- Make one for each holiday on the school calendar and compare them.
- Ask older students to explain how the weeks-and-days line is worked out.

Questions
Does it know when my school's break is?
No, and it does not guess. Schools set their own dates, so you type yours. The holiday buttons are different: they are worked out from rules such as the fourth Thursday of November, and they are right for the year it is.
How are days counted?
As calendar days from today in this computer's time zone to the date you pick. If it is the day, the page says so. If the date has passed, it says how long ago.
What does 'weekdays' mean?
It counts Monday to Friday days before the date, including today. It cannot know your holidays, so the real number of school days is at most that.
Is my date sent anywhere?
No. It is kept in the address after the # sign and in this browser. Neither goes to a server.
Nothing you do here is sent to us. Names, lists and settings stay in this browser. No sign-in, no ads.
