Days until winter break

A big winter break countdown for the projector. Type the first day off once and it counts the days for you; Share copies a link that opens the same countdown.

Pick a date below and the days to go appear here.

The link in your address bar carries this date, so Share opens the same countdown. School breaks differ by district, so type your own dates; the holiday buttons are worked out from their rules for the current year.

How to use it

  1. Choose the date of winter break in the Date box. The big number is the days from today to that date.
  2. Type a name such as "Winter break" if you want it to show on the screen.
  3. Press F to fill the screen. Press Share to copy a link that opens this same countdown on any computer; your browser also remembers it.

Ideas for class

  • Type your school's first day off and leave the countdown on the board from the first of December.
  • Use the weekday count under the number as the number of lessons left, then subtract the days your calendar says are not school days.
  • Make a paper chain with one link for each weekday and remove a link each morning.
  • Set the deadline for a project a week before the break and show a second countdown to that date.
  • Ask students to estimate how many Fridays are left, then check on the calendar.
  • Share the link with families so they see the same number, without telling us anything about the class.

Questions

When is winter break?

It depends on your school or district, which is why this page does not fill in a date. Look at your school calendar, type the first day off in the Date box, and the countdown works from there.

Will the date be remembered?

Yes, in this browser, and in the link after the # sign in the address bar. Neither is sent to our servers. Open the same link on another computer and it shows the same countdown.

Does it count school days?

The big number counts calendar days. Under it, the page shows the Monday to Friday days before the date, counting today. It does not know your school's holidays or teacher days, so treat that as an upper bound.
