Days until Valentine's Day

A big countdown to Valentine's Day, February 14, for the classroom projector. Worked out for you from today's date, every year.

Counting…

Counting down in this computer's time zone. Count to a different date.

How to use it

  1. The countdown is already set to Valentine's Day and shows the days from today. Nothing to type.
  2. Press F to fill the screen for the projector. It updates itself at midnight.
  3. To count to a different date, such as the last day of school, use the countdown page and pick your own.

Ideas for class

  • Show the countdown while students plan cards and set a deadline for finishing them.
  • Use the number as a math story: if we make 4 cards a day, how many will we have by the date?
  • Set a class kindness challenge that lasts until the countdown reaches zero.
  • Count weekdays left and compare with calendar days to talk about weekends.
  • Have students write a note to someone and put it in a box for the day itself.
  • Review the number in the morning meeting and let one student change the calendar page.

Questions

What date is Valentine's Day?

February 14 each year. The page counts to the next February 14 on or after today.

Does the countdown change in a leap year?

The date stays February 14, but the number of days from a date in January or before can differ by a day because of February 29. The page counts real calendar days, so it is right either way.

Can I add a class party date instead?

Yes. Use the countdown page, pick the date of your party, and type a name for it.
