Counting…
Counting down in this computer's time zone. Count to a different date.
How to use it
- The countdown is already set to Thanksgiving and shows the days from today. Nothing to type.
- Press F to fill the screen for the projector. It updates itself at midnight.
- To count to a different date, such as the last day of school, use the countdown page and pick your own.
Ideas for class
- Show the countdown each morning and ask the class to say how many weekdays are left before the break.
- Use it for a gratitude board: add one thing each day the number goes down.
- Practice subtraction with the number each morning: today's days minus the days in the week.
- Time a weekly writing task so the final piece is finished before the countdown reaches zero.
- Let students predict what date the number will reach 10, and check the guess when it does.
- Use it for a family letter: tell families the date, and put the same countdown on your class page link.

Questions
What date is Thanksgiving?
In the United States, Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November. The date moves from year to year (it can fall between November 22 and November 28), so this page works it out for the year it is counting to.
What about Canadian Thanksgiving?
Canada's Thanksgiving is a different day, the second Monday of October. This page counts to the United States holiday. Use the countdown page to pick the Canadian date.
Why does the page show weekdays too?
Teachers usually care about days in school. The weekday count shows Monday to Friday days before the date, counting today. It does not know about teacher workdays or early dismissals, so check your calendar.
