Indoor recess board

A rainy-day screen for indoor recess: the plan in a note, the clock, a scoreboard for games, a recess timer and attention signals for clean-up, over a falling-rain backdrop.

How to use it

  1. Type the indoor recess choices into the note: quiet games, books, drawing, building.
  2. Set the timer to the length of recess and press Start. Rename the scoreboard teams in its gear if you play a class game.
  3. When recess is nearly over, press Rain stick or 5-4-3-2-1 in the signals widget to call the room back.

Ideas for class

  • Play Clap back as the first game: the board plays a rhythm, the class claps it back, and Next makes it harder up to level five.
  • Keep score in a class game such as Four Corners or heads-up, with big +1 and +5 buttons.
  • Leave the rain backdrop on for a rainy day, or change it in Background; Still stops it moving.
  • Use the chime as the two-minute warning before clean-up.
  • List the indoor recess rules in the note so children can read them without asking.
  • Use the timer for turns at a popular game, so everyone gets one.

Questions

Can I change the backdrop?

Yes. Choose one in Background above the board: falling leaves, snow, rain, a meadow, night stars, gradients or graph, dot and lined paper. Auto follows the season. Still stops it moving.

Is Clap back hard for young children?

Level 1 is three claps in one bar, which most young children can clap back. Each Next adds claps, up to eight over two bars at level five. Again repeats the same rhythm.

Do the sounds play with no internet?

Yes, once the page has loaded. The chime, rain stick and claps are made in the browser, so there are no sound files to download. M turns them off.
