Quick answer
The Real Mother Goose on Project Gutenberg is our number one: a 1916 book of hundreds of rhymes, marked public domain in the USA, free to read or download. Peabody's own rhyme lists are second, because they print words only for public-domain songs and say so. Sites that print words without saying what is public domain rank lower.

Questions
Which children's songs are public domain?
Traditional nursery rhymes and songs first published long ago. In the United States, works published in 1930 or earlier are in the public domain as of 2026; many newer children's songs are not.
May I print song words for families?
For a public-domain song, yes. For a song still under copyright, link to a licensed page instead. This is not legal advice.
Is a recording of an old song public domain too?
Not necessarily. A traditional song can be public domain while a particular recording or arrangement is copyrighted.
