Five Senses theme for 3 and 4 year olds: a week of activities
A five senses theme lesson plan for 3 and 4 year olds: what a day looks like, then the week's circle time (ten to fifteen minutes, with a child holding the book), books, craft, song, snack, letter and outside time, each with what changes at this age.
A day of the five senses theme with 3 and 4 year olds
- Arrival, sign-in, and a job from the helper chart.
- Circle (ten to fifteen minutes): calendar, “What can you hear right now if we are very quiet?”, sing “peter piper”, then I See a Boy.
- Centers, with the craft at one table: touch board.
- Letter E: trace it once, then hunt for E around the room.
- Snack: Trail Mix Your Way, with children pouring and counting.
- Outside: listening walk.
- Rest, then a longer read-aloud.

- Say a word for each: soft, rough, smooth, bumpy.
With a grown-up. No heat, nothing hot.
Five Senses song: Peter Piper
The words
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers; A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked. If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?
Traditional; public domain. From Top 52 nursery rhymes with lyrics.
Five Senses snack
Trail Mix Your Way from the Peabody Kitchen: picture steps, allergy swaps and safety lines on the recipe.
Swap: Peanuts → sunflower seeds (no shells).
Letter E activities
EeE is for ear. Print the two pages (a trace page and a color page).
Threes and fours: trace E and e once, then find E in the room and in the book.
Outside activity: Listening walk
Walk quietly and stop three times. What can everyone hear? A bird, a car, the wind?
