Five senses: a preschool theme week

Checked Oct 30, 2026 · Any time of year · September, February

One week on five senses for twos to fours: a five-line circle time, 4 books (4 free to read on Peabody), one craft with 6 materials, “Peter Piper” with its words, a snack from the Kitchen and the letter E.

Circle time

  1. Good morning song, then say each name together.
  2. Calendar: the day, the date and the weather.
  3. Ask: “What can you hear right now if we are very quiet?”
  4. Sing: Peter Piper.
  5. Read: I See a Boy (level 3).

Threes and fours: ten to fifteen minutes; let a child hold the book.

Books

  • I See a Boy (level 3, free on peabody.kids): I see… a book about looking.
  • Tim Taps (level 0, free on peabody.kids): Tapping and listening: the sense of hearing.
  • Sip, Sip, Sip (level 0, free on peabody.kids): Tasting and sipping, for the snack-time talk.
  • Pat, Pat, Pat (level 0, free on peabody.kids): Touch, in small kind pats.

Craft: Touch board

You need (6): card, glue stick, cotton ball, sandpaper scrap, foil scrap, fabric scrap.

  1. Glue the four scraps onto the card.
  2. Touch each one with eyes closed.
  3. Say a word for each: soft, rough, smooth, bumpy.

With a grown-up. No heat, nothing hot.

Song: Peter Piper

The words

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers; A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked. If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?

Traditional; public domain. From Top 52 nursery rhymes with lyrics.

Snack

Trail Mix Your Way from the Peabody Kitchen: picture steps, allergy swaps and safety lines on the recipe.

Swap: Peanuts → sunflower seeds (no shells).

Letter pack

EeE is for ear. Print the two pages (a trace page and a color page).

Threes and fours: trace E and e once, then find E in the room and in the book.

Outside: Listening walk

Walk quietly and stop three times. What can everyone hear? A bird, a car, the wind?
