Days until the first day of school
A big first-day-of-school countdown. Type the date once and it counts the days for you; Share copies a link that opens the same countdown.
Pick a date below and the days to go appear here.
The link in your address bar carries this date, so Share opens the same countdown. School breaks differ by district, so type your own dates; the holiday buttons are worked out from their rules for the current year.
How to use it
- Choose the date of the first day of school in the Date box. The big number is the days from today to that date.
- Type a name such as "The first day of school" if you want it to show on the screen.
- Press F to fill the screen. Press Share to copy a link that opens this same countdown on any computer; your browser also remembers it.
Ideas for class
- Type the first day and put the countdown on your welcome page for families.
- Use it for planning: list the steps to finish in the weeks before and tick them as the days go down.
- Show the countdown to a new class on the first morning, to talk about how many days of school there are in a week.
- Create a class-setup checklist and use the weekday count to pace it.
- Use the weeks-and-days line as a way to talk about the calendar with older students.
- Ask students to write a goal for the year the day before the countdown ends.
