About this sheet

The end of the year is a good time to ask children to look back, and a good page makes the looking easy. This one has a picture box for a drawing of the year, a line for the favorite memory, a box for what the child learned, two short answers about a favorite book and a favorite thing in the room, and a note for next year's class. A final scale asks how the child feels about moving on. The page is meant for pencils, crayons and quiet time, and is a keepsake for the child and a window for you. It makes a good folder page with the first-week all about me, so a child can see how they changed.

Grades: Pre-K to 6. Best in: May, June.

How to use it

  1. Print a class set, and read the page aloud once so that children know what each box is for. Give them time to think first.
  2. Let children draw and write, and share with a partner if they like. Read a few aloud, with permission, as a closing circle.
  3. Give the page back with the all about me page from September, so each child has a before and an after to take home.

Five ideas for class

  1. Give back the all about me pages from the first week, and let children add to them what has changed. The comparison is the lesson.
  2. Collect the notes to next year's class and keep them to hand out on the first day of the next year, from a student who was there.
  3. Make a class book from the favorite memories, with a page for each child and a cover chosen by vote.
  4. Read the hopes for next year privately, and pass any worth sharing to next year's teacher, with the child's permission.
  5. Use the picture box as a drawing of the room, the friends or the best day, and display the pictures on the last day.

Questions

Is the page a record?

No. It is a keepsake the child takes home. Do not use it as an assessment or file it as a student record.

What if a child had a hard year?

The page asks for what the child chooses to share. A child can write about small things, such as a book or a corner of the room, and need not write about the whole year.

Is it for the last day only?

It suits the last week. For the end of a unit, use the 3-2-1 slip, which has editable headings.

How do I save it as a PDF?

Choose Print, then pick “Save as PDF” as the printer. Only the sheet prints: the page around it is hidden. You can also save a sheet as a PNG image under the preview.

Can I print it in black and white?

Yes. Switch to Black and white beside the sheet: fills turn white and lines turn black, so it saves ink and photocopies cleanly.
