The letter of the week, without a worksheet pile

Checked October 30, 2026

Meet the letter three times in the week: trace it once on Monday, find it in the room and in the book on Wednesday, and color the picture page on Friday. That is one sheet a child, not a stack. Each theme has a two-page letter pack (a trace page and a color page) that prints on Letter or A4.

Three meetings

  1. Monday, trace: the upper and lower case once each across the trace page.
  2. Wednesday, find: the letter on the door, a cereal box, a child's name, and in the week's book.
  3. Friday, color: the big letter and the theme's drawing on the color page.

By age

  • Twos: the color page only, and say the word (“A is for apple”).
  • Threes: trace with a fat crayon; it won't stay on the lines, and doesn't need to.
  • Fours: trace, then try the letter in sand or on a chalkboard.

Start with names

The letter that matters most to a three-year-old is the first letter of their own name. When the week's letter is in a child's name, say so at circle time.

Each theme's pack is at its page: for example the apples letter pack.
