Ideas for class

  • Use the clock timer to help students who are learning to read an analogue clock: the hand moves, the numbers stay.
  • Show a lap of the face for a 5 minute task, so students can see when the hand will be back at the top.
  • Time a 10 minute independent task and ask students to point to where the hand will be at the halfway mark.
  • Ask a math question: if the hand has gone a quarter of the way round, how much time has passed?
  • Use it for a class period: a 45 minute run with the face visible from the back of the room.
  • Use it as a calm alternative to a flashing display for students who find digits stressful.

Questions

How does the clock timer read?

The hand starts at 12 and sweeps clockwise. A full lap is the whole time you set, whether that is 1 minute or 1 hour. The shaded part is the time that has passed, and the digits under the face show the time left.

Is it a real 60 minute clock face?

The ticks are drawn like a clock face, but a lap is always the time you chose. For 60 minutes the hand moves like the minute hand of a real clock.

Does it work in Night and Chalk themes?

Yes. The face, ticks and numerals follow the theme, so they stay readable on a dark or chalkboard-green display.
