1 minute timer

A 1 minute timer for the projector: big digits, a quiet chime, warning colours, and full screen. Good for brain breaks, transitions and quick-writes.

Keys: Space start or pause · R reset · ← → 30 seconds · 1–8 the presets · M sound · F full screen

How to use it

  1. The timer is already set to 1 minute. Press Start, or tap the Space bar.
  2. Press F to fill the screen. The buttons fade away until you move the mouse; press Esc to come back.
  3. Add or take off 30 seconds with the arrow keys. If you need a different length, press a preset or choose Custom.

Ideas for class

  • Start the lesson with one minute of silent thinking about a question on the board.
  • Run a one-minute brain break: shake out your hands, stretch up high, take three slow breaths.
  • Play a one-minute sprint where students write as many words as they can from a long word.
  • Give a one-minute turn-and-talk and call time with the chime.
  • Use it as the minute to line up quietly at the door.
  • Time one minute of silent re-reading before a discussion.
  • The halfway mark is 0:30: when the digits reach it, ask students to hold up fingers for how far through the task they are.

Questions

Why is a one minute timer popular for transitions?

A minute is short enough to feel like a challenge and long enough for most small tasks: put away books, clear a desk, or find a page. Showing it large on the board gives the class something to beat without anyone needing to nag.

What do teachers use a 1 minute timer for?

A 1 minute timer fits the small gaps in a lesson: a transition, a stretch, a clean-up, or a short think before sharing. Because it is short, the digits are the main thing on screen, and the warning colours change quickly near the end so students can see the time running out.

How do I change the 1 minute timer?

Press a preset button or choose Custom and type a length such as 7:30 or 90s. The page address updates to carry the new length, so you can bookmark it or share it. This page always opens at 1 minute.

Will the 1 minute timer keep the right time if the tab is in the background?

Yes. The countdown compares the clock when you pressed Start with the clock now, so it stays right when a tab sleeps. When it reaches zero it plays a short, soft chime (press M to turn the sound off) and the page title in the tab says the time is up.
