For the teacher who's out

Leave a day a stranger can run: a plan for tomorrow, a folder for the day you can't plan, and a card on the desk for the day you left nothing.

Out tomorrow

Make your sub's plan tonight: pick your grade, set your times, and print the whole day with its sheets and keys. Leave it on the desk.

Or print a pack for any subject to leave behind.

Once a year

Build the emergency sub folder: who you are, where things are, the schedule, routines, seating and who to ask. Print it for the office and the teacher next door.

On the desk

Print the card below and tape it inside your planner or on the desk. If you're ever out with nothing left, the sub scans it and makes a day at your grade.

What subs wish teachers left (12)

  1. The day's schedule with times, including specials, lunch and dismissal.
  2. How the class gets quiet: your signal, in your words.
  3. A seating chart for every class, first names are fine.
  4. Two or three students who can answer questions about routines.
  5. The name and room of a teacher nearby who agreed to help.
  6. How students go home, and who to ask about changes.
  7. Where the emergency plan and the drill route are.
  8. Work the class can do without being taught something new.
  9. Something for early finishers.
  10. How attendance and the lunch count are sent.
  11. Any duty the sub covers for you: recess, bus, lunch.
  12. A page for the sub to leave you a note.

To my substitute

If I didn't leave a plan, go to teach.peabody.kids/sub. Pick my grade and it prints a whole day with every sheet. Thank you for being here.
