Emergency sub folder

Build it once, for the morning you can't plan: who you are, where things are, the schedule, routines, seating, who to ask, and a page for the sub's note. Each part prints on its own page. What you type stays on this computer.

A folder to keep in the office or on your desk for a day you cannot plan ahead: a class information sheet, the schedule, procedures, seating, contacts and a page for the sub to leave notes. Each section prints on its own page. Fill it in once and update it each year.

A short note to the substitute: who you are and what your class is like.
Keys, attendance, lesson materials, supplies, the copier, the first aid kit.
Daily scheduleThe usual day, in order. Include specials, lunch, recess, and who walks the class.

How to use it

  1. Fill in each box with your own routines. A box left empty prints with ruled lines to write by hand.
  2. Print it, put it in a folder marked Sub, and give a copy to the office and to the teacher next door.
  3. Update it each term, and put the date on the front.

Ideas for class

  • Add a line at the top: “If I left nothing, go to teach.peabody.kids/sub for a whole day at our grade.”
  • Leave first names only in the seating chart, and keep medical and learning details with the office if that is your school's rule.
  • Put three days of review work behind the folder, already copied, labeled by day.

Questions

Is this the same folder as the sub plan template page?

Yes. It is saved in this browser under the same name, so what you fill in here also appears on the sub plan template page, and the other way round.

What does it say about emergencies?

Nothing about what to do: your school's own plan decides that. The folder has boxes for where the sub will find the plan, the exit route, and who to ask.
