About this sheet

Teachers plan in weeks, but the year has a shape of its own: a long fall, a short December, a testing season, a long run to summer. A year-at-a-glance page lets you see it. Twelve small months fill one landscape sheet, each with its days lined up correctly, so you can highlight a break or circle a deadline and spot a month that is too full. The first month and the year are editable, so you can plan a school year from August, a calendar year from January or a homeschool year from whenever you begin. Print one for the wall and one for the front of your planner.

Best in: August, September, June.

How to use it

  1. Choose the first month and the year. Pick August or September for a school year, or January for a calendar year.
  2. Print on landscape paper. Highlight the no-school days and breaks first, then the testing windows, then the events.
  3. Hang it by your desk and look at it every few weeks, to see which months are crowded and which have room.

Five ideas for class

  1. Color the breaks in one highlighter and the testing windows in another, and use the pattern to place your biggest units in the clear stretches.
  2. Count the teaching days between breaks and write the number under each block. The unit you thought would take a month may fit in three weeks.
  3. Print a copy for the class and let students mark their birthdays and the days they are looking forward to, to learn how a year is laid out.
  4. Use it as a family copy at the start of the term. Parents appreciate seeing the breaks and the conference dates before they book trips.
  5. Start a second sheet in January for a calendar-year view that carries across the break, so you can see how a long unit crosses it.

Questions

Does it mark holidays?

No. Holidays and closures differ by school and by year, so you add them. The page prints only the days of each month.

Can I start the year in any month?

Yes. Choose the first month and year in the boxes and the twelve months follow from there, crossing into the next year as needed.

Does it work on A4?

Yes. The twelve months scale to the page, and the paper size follows your choice beside the sheet.

How do I save it as a PDF?

Choose Print, then pick “Save as PDF” as the printer. Only the sheet prints: the page around it is hidden. You can also save a sheet as a PNG image under the preview.

Can I print it in black and white?

Yes. Switch to Black and white beside the sheet: fills turn white and lines turn black, so it saves ink and photocopies cleanly.
