About this sheet

A certificate is the kind of thing a child keeps. This one is designed to be filled in by hand, so the reason is in the teacher’s own words, and a short specific sentence (for helping a classmate learn to tie shoes) means more to a child than a general one. The border is a double rule with round corners, and the rosette is drawn from simple shapes. Change the heading and the same page becomes a reading award, a kindness award or a perfect-attendance certificate. Type the name and the reason if you would rather print than write, or leave them blank and print a dozen.

How to use it

  1. Change the heading to the award (Student of the Week, Kindness Award, Reading Star) and, if you like, type the school or class name.
  2. Type the student’s name and the reason, or leave them blank to write by hand after printing.
  3. Print on card stock in landscape, sign it, and present it in front of the class. Read the reason aloud.

Five ideas for class

  1. Write the reason in one specific sentence about something the student did, not a trait. Specific praise is easier to believe.
  2. Have the class write a short note about the student on the back of the certificate before you present it.
  3. Rotate the award so every student receives one before the year ends. Keep a simple tally so nobody is missed.
  4. Send the certificate home in a folder with a note to the family, and photograph nothing without permission.
  5. Use black and white and let the student color the border and rosette as part of the celebration.

Questions

Can I change the award title?

Yes. The heading is the first box. Type any award name and the sheet redraws, with the text fitted to the width.

What paper should I use?

Card stock in a pale color gives the best result. The certificate prints in landscape on letter or A4.

Is the name saved?

A name you type is kept in this browser only, so it is there if you come back. Clear it with Start over.

How do I save it as a PDF?

Choose Print, then pick “Save as PDF” as the printer. Only the sheet prints: the page around it is hidden. You can also save a sheet as a PNG image under the preview.

Can I print it in black and white?

Yes. Switch to Black and white beside the sheet: fills turn white and lines turn black, so it saves ink and photocopies cleanly.

Is what I type saved or sent anywhere?

Your edits are kept in this browser so they are there next time, and are never sent to us. No sign-in, no ads.
