About this sheet
A hall pass does two jobs: it tells the next adult that the student is allowed to be in the hall, and it tells you which students are out. Cards that name the destination (Restroom, Nurse, Office) make the second job easy, because the card on the hook is the record. The time lines are there for the teacher who wants to notice a pattern, and the teacher or room line prints at the top if you type it. Laminate the cards and punch a hole, or glue a card to a wooden spoon, a lanyard or a bright plastic tag so it does not get lost.
Grades: 2 to 8.
How to use it
- Type the destinations you allow, one per line. Cards without a destination print with a blank to write one.
- Type your name or room number if you want it printed on every card, then print on card stock.
- Cut apart, laminate and hang them on a hook by the door. A card off the hook means a student is out.
Five ideas for class
- Give each destination a different color of card stock so an adult in the hall can tell where a student is headed.
- Keep one card per destination and hang them where you can see them, so only one student can be out for each place at a time.
- Attach each card to something large and easy to see, such as a wooden spoon, a paint stirrer or a plastic ruler.
- Use the time lines for one week to see when most trips happen, then adjust your routines instead of the passes.
- Teach the routine on day one: take the card, write the time, return the card, and do not interrupt a lesson to ask.

Questions
Is there a digital hall pass too?
Yes. The pass tool on this site is a sign-out board you can use on a projector or a tablet. These cards are the paper version for rooms without a screen.
Should students write their names on passes?
It depends on your school’s policy. A name line is useful for tracking. If you prefer, remove the Name line by editing the card text and use the card hook itself as the record.
How many passes should a class have?
One per destination is common, so only one student can be out for each place at a time. Add a general pass if you need one for the counselor or a special errand.
How do I save it as a PDF?
Choose Print, then pick “Save as PDF” as the printer. Only the sheet prints: the page around it is hidden. You can also save a sheet as a PNG image under the preview.
Can I print it in black and white?
Yes. Switch to Black and white beside the sheet: fills turn white and lines turn black, so it saves ink and photocopies cleanly.
