Hall pass sign-out board
See who is out of the room, where they went and how long they have been gone, with a log for today. No accounts, and no student data leaves this computer.
Out of the room now (0)
Nobody is out.
Today's log · Thursday, January 1
Nobody has come back yet today.
How to use it
- Type a name (suggestions come from your class list, if you added one), choose where they are going and press Sign out.
- A timer starts for each student who is out. It turns red after the number of minutes you set.
- Press Back when they return. They move to today's log, which you can print. The board clears itself at midnight.
Ideas for class
- Keep the board open in a small window on your computer so a glance tells you who is out, without interrupting the lesson.
- Set “warn if more out than” to your rule, such as one or two at a time, and the board tells you when you are over.
- Spot patterns by printing the log: the same student leaving at the same time every day is worth a gentle conversation.
- Have students sign themselves out on a shared tablet by the door so you do not have to stop teaching.
- Use it for any short trip out of the room, not only the restroom: office errands, the library, the nurse or a locker visit.
- Teach the routine on the first day: sign out on the board, take the pass, sign back in, so nobody has to interrupt you mid-lesson.

Questions
Is this a record of student information?
It holds names and times only in this browser on this computer, and sends them nowhere: there is no account, server or sync. The log clears itself at midnight. It is a classroom aid, not an official record, and your school's own hall pass policy comes first.
Why does it clear at midnight?
A log of where students went is not something to keep around. Each day starts fresh. Print the log before the day ends if you need to keep a copy, and be careful with printouts.
Does it work on more than one device?
No. The board lives in one browser on one computer, which is the point: nothing is shared. Use it on the device that stays in your room.
Can students use it themselves?
Yes, on a device you control. There is nothing to sign into and the only things on screen are names that you have typed, so keep that screen where only your class can see it.
What happens if I forget to press Back?
The timer keeps counting and turns red, so it is hard to miss. If a student is back, press Back and the time away is recorded as of that moment.
