Morning work maker: daily math and language review v0.1.0

A week of morning work for any grade, K–8, in a minute: five math review items a day (three on this week’s skill, two from earlier ones), a fix-the-sentence, and a word of the day or a sight word, with an answer key. Grades 6–8 print it as a bell ringer. Free, no sign-up.

Or , counting from the first Monday in August.

Each day has five math items: three on this week’s skill and two from earlier ones, so nothing taught is dropped. Grades 6 to 8 print as a bell ringer.

Was this useful?

How to use it

  1. Pick the grade and the school week, or press “this week”. The math moves up the grade’s skills as the weeks go by.
  2. Choose one day a page, or two days a page as half sheets, and keep or drop the answer key.
  3. Press Print the week. Put a stack on desks on Monday, or one day at a time.
  4. Use Today on the board to put one day large on the projector and go over it together.

Ideas for class

  • Go over Monday’s sheet out loud on the board, then let the class work Tuesday to Friday on their own.
  • Keep the same week for two weeks in grades K–1: the second time through builds speed.
  • Use New version for a second set on the same skills for students who finish early or missed a day.
  • Mark only the review items for a week: they show what has stuck from earlier units.

Questions

What is spiral review?

Practice that keeps coming back to skills taught earlier instead of dropping them when a unit ends. Each day here has two items from earlier skills beside three on this week’s.

Where do the questions come from?

Math facts from Peabody’s practice bank with its own near-miss wrong answers; fix-the-sentence items written by hand for each grade; sight words and word meanings from the same bank the reading games use.
