Handwriting worksheet maker
Type any words, or paste a class list and print one page per student: a cursive model line, dotted letters to trace that can fade from dark to light, stroke arrows and start dots, and blank guide lines. Free, with nothing sent anywhere.
Letters, accented letters, numbers and . , ! ? ¿ ¡ ' - : ; are supported.
How to use it
- Choose what to make: a sheet from your words, one page for each student, all the names on one sheet, or pen license cards. Type the words, press a sample such as Days of the week, or paste the class names one a line.
- Choose what each line looks like: a model then dotted tracing, a model then dots that fade dark, medium and light, dotted only, or blank lines. Pick the line height and the slant (Upright, Light, Standard or Strong) and leave Stroke numbers and arrows on for new writers.
- Check the preview, choose Letter or A4 and press Print. Choose Save as PDF as the printer to keep a copy.
Ideas for class
- Type this week's spelling list so handwriting and spelling practice are on one page.
- Paste your class list and print one name page per student on the first day of cursive. Each page carries the child's name small at the top so you can hand them out.
- Use Model, then dots that fade for new letters: children trace the dark dots, then the lighter ones, then write it alone.
- Pick a letter in Join drill to print every join out of it (oa, ob, oc and so on), for the letters that leave from up high: b, o, v and w.
- Put a favourite sentence or a poem line on the sheet for copy work, in Spanish or French too: the accent keys add á, é, ñ, ü, ç, ¿ and ¡.
- Print pen license cards from the class list, eight to a page, and sign one when a student is ready to write in cursive.
- Print blank lines at Large height for a student who is just starting to join letters, and Small for fluent writers.
- Turn Join the letters off for students who are learning each cursive letter before they connect them.

Questions
What can I type?
Letters, accented letters (á é í ó ú ñ ü, the French accents and ç), numbers, spaces and the marks . , ! ? ¿ ¡ ' - : ;. Anything else is left out, and the page lists the characters it skipped. Up to 600 characters; longer text goes onto extra pages, to a maximum of six.
How do I make a page for every student?
Choose One page for each student and paste the names, one a line, up to 40. Each student gets a page of their own name: a model, dotted tracing and blank lines, repeated down the page in the style you chose. All the names on one sheet puts the whole list on one practice sheet instead, and Pen license cards prints eight name cards to a page.
Are the class names saved or shared?
The names are kept only in this browser, so they are there next time on this computer. They are never sent to us and never put in the Share link: a colleague who opens your link gets your settings, not your class. Clear the names removes them.
What do the numbers, arrows and dots mean?
A green dot marks every place the pencil goes down: the start of each word and of each extra stroke. With Stroke numbers and arrows on, the model line also shows a small arrow for the direction to go. Turn Ink saver on and they print grey.
How big is each line?
Small is about three quarters of an inch from line to line, Medium about one inch and Large about 1.4 inches. Pick Large for the youngest writers and Small for students who can write within narrow lines.
Will the dotted letters photocopy well?
Yes. They are round dots in mid-grey, and the lightest fading dots are still dark enough to copy. Turn on Ink saver for a lighter sheet, or print at a darker setting if the dots fade on your copier.
Which cursive style does it use?
A simplified model of connected cursive drawn for this site, with smooth joins between letters, at the slant you choose. It is not a copy of D'Nealian, Zaner-Bloser or Handwriting Without Tears, so check it against your school's program before you hand out a full set.
Can I save the sheet as a PDF?
Choose Print, then Save as PDF as the printer. The page sets Letter or A4 for you.
