1. WorksheetWorks

WorksheetWorks.com

  • Best for a quick word search or maze with no account
  • Free plan, paid upgrades

A worksheet generator with a puzzle section that lists word search, mazes, Sudoku, Kakuro, Word Plexer, magic squares, math mazes and more. For the word search you type your own words; the page suggests 20 to 40 words and advises against phrases or words with numbers or special punctuation. The FAQ says worksheets are free for educational use.

The free part: The FAQ says you can make and download worksheets without signing up, and that the site serves no ads.

A paid premium membership adds some extra materials. We did not see its price.

Watch for The puzzle menu we read lists a word search but no word crossword, only a cross-number puzzle, so crosswords need another site.

Visit WorksheetWorks ↗  Facts read on the maker’s page.

2. Crossword Labs

Crossword Labs

  • Best for a clean, printable vocabulary crossword
  • Free plan, paid upgrades

A crossword maker. The page says it is free to use with no registration, no ads and no watermarks. You can print a puzzle, export it to PDF or Microsoft Word, download it as an image, or export it as SVG to customize.

The free part: Making a Public puzzle needs no account. The page does not state limits on how many puzzles you can make.

A paid membership is mentioned but no price was shown. It unlocks Hidden and Private puzzles.

Watch for Crosswords only. Hidden and Private puzzles need a paid membership, and the page says a lost passcode cannot be recovered, so keep student names out of free puzzles.

Watch for The page shows promotional banners for other Discovery Education products and did not say whether an account is needed. The footer says all rights reserved, so check how you may share the results.

The page calls itself free. It also promotes paid software, a word search maker and Crossword Weaver, with free demos.

Watch for The pages show advertisements. The word search page says the words and clues you enter help build a database and that good puzzles may be kept and reused, so do not type student names or personal details.

The home page says you can create cards for free, but the FAQ talks about orders, voucher codes and downloading cards after paying. We could not tell which parts cost money.

How we chose

We weighed these, most important first. The order is our judgement against them, not a score or a vote, and a different teacher could reasonably order it differently.

  1. Free without a credit card. Can a teacher make and print a puzzle at no cost, and does the site say where the paid part starts?
  2. No sign-in to start. Whether the site's own page says you need an account before you can make or print a puzzle.
  3. Ads and word-list privacy. Whether ads are mentioned, and what the page says about what happens to the words and clues you type in.
  4. Printing and export. Whether you can print a clean sheet or save a PDF or Word file on the free tier.
  5. Puzzle variety. How many kinds of puzzle the site makes from a teacher's own word list.

We took no money, free products or affiliate commissions for any place on this list, and no link here carries a tracking code. Every fact was read on the maker’s own page on October 27, 2026; prices carry that date because they change. See how we choose and the ad-free promise.

Questions

Which puzzle makers work without an account?
WorksheetWorks says in its FAQ that you can make and download worksheets without signing up, and Crossword Labs says no registration is required for a Public puzzle. WordMint and Wordwall point to creating an account as the way to start.
Can I save a word search as a PDF for free?
Crossword Labs lists PDF and Word export on its page without mentioning a charge for them. WordMint's pricing page says PDF and Word export are not on its free plan.
Is it safe to type my students' names into a puzzle maker?
We would avoid it. Puzzle-Maker.com says the words and clues you enter help build a database, and Crossword Labs offers Hidden and Private puzzles only on a paid plan. Use vocabulary words instead of names.
Which sites make bingo cards?
Bingo Card Creator, My Free Bingo Cards and WordMint all make bingo cards. Bingo Card Creator lists 5 free cards a month on its home page, and WordMint's free plan includes creating bingo cards with limited printing.
