Questions

What can I split a 6 minute timer into?

Six divides by two, three and six: 3 + 3 for two partners, 2 + 2 + 2 for three steps, or six rounds of one minute. Set the timer for the whole six and watch the halfway mark, or use a shorter preset and press R between rounds.

How do I use a 6 minute timer for independent work?

Post the task, say how long it runs, set the timer to 6 minutes and press Start. Press F to fill the screen so students can see how much time is left without asking. The warning colours turn amber at about a third of the time left and red near the end, which gives a natural cue to wrap up.

How do I change the 6 minute timer?

Press a preset button or choose Custom and type a length such as 7:30 or 90s. The page address updates to carry the new length, so you can bookmark it or share it. This page always opens at 6 minutes.

Will the 6 minute timer keep the right time if the tab is in the background?

Yes. The countdown compares the clock when you pressed Start with the clock now, so it stays right when a tab sleeps. When it reaches zero it plays a short, soft chime (press M to turn the sound off) and the page title in the tab says the time is up.
