Questions

How do I use a 10 minute timer for a warm-up?

Write the task on the board before students arrive, set the timer to 10 minutes and press Start as the bell rings. The class can see how long they have to settle and begin. At the amber mark, give a one-minute warning.

How do I use a 10 minute timer for independent work?

Post the task, say how long it runs, set the timer to 10 minutes and press Start. Press F to fill the screen so students can see how much time is left without asking. The warning colours turn amber at about a third of the time left and red near the end, which gives a natural cue to wrap up.

How do I change the 10 minute timer?

Press a preset button or choose Custom and type a length such as 7:30 or 90s. The page address updates to carry the new length, so you can bookmark it or share it. This page always opens at 10 minutes.

Will the 10 minute timer keep the right time if the tab is in the background?

Yes. The countdown compares the clock when you pressed Start with the clock now, so it stays right when a tab sleeps. When it reaches zero it plays a short, soft chime (press M to turn the sound off) and the page title in the tab says the time is up.
