Sub welcome board: introduce yourself to the class
Put up who you are, three rules for today and how you'll ask for quiet before the bell rings. Show it on the projector, let it read itself aloud to younger grades, or print it as a poster for the door with a name tent for the desk.
What the class sees
Hello! I'm your substitute teacher today.
Our rules today
- Listen when someone is talking.
- Raise your hand to speak or to get up.
- Be kind with your words and your hands.
How I'll ask for quiet
When I say “If you can hear me, clap once,” clap once. Then I'll say clap twice. Then eyes on me.
Your teacher is away today and will be back soon. Let's make it a day they'll be glad to hear about.
Your name and the line about you stay in this browser. They are never sent to us or put in a link. There is nowhere to type a student's name.
How to use it
- Pick the grade, then type your name the way the class should say it.
- Tick up to five rules. Three is plenty for a room that doesn't know you.
- Show it on the projector as students come in, or print the poster and the name tent.
Ideas for class
- Leave it up through attendance: students read it while you find the seating chart.
- Read the rules out loud once, then point to the board instead of repeating yourself.
- Ask the class which quiet signal their teacher uses. If it's different, use theirs and say so.

Questions
How should a substitute teacher introduce themselves to students?
Keep it short: your name the way they should say it, one true thing about you, what today looks like, and the few rules you will hold them to. Then start the first task. The board puts all of that on one screen.
What rules should a sub put on the board?
Three short rules said as what to do, such as listening when someone talks and doing things the way they do with their teacher. A short list a class can read beats a long list nobody does.
Is my name sent anywhere?
No. Your name and the line about you stay in this browser so they are there next time. They are never sent to us or put in a link, and there is nowhere to type a student's name.
Nothing you type here is sent to us or put in a link. It stays in this browser. No sign-in, no ads.
