How to become a substitute teacher in Montana
In Montana, districts hire substitutes, and a state rule sets the minimum. The Office of Public Instruction (OPI) explains that under ARM 10.55.716, a substitute must have a high school diploma or a passing GED score, finish at least three hours of training, and pass a fingerprint-based background check. The state page names no separate sub license. Each district can add its own rules, so check with the district.
