Questions
Are the passages free?
Yes, with no sign-in and no ads. You can print them and project them.
Where do the passages come from?
They were written for Peabody Teach, about animals, weather, space, plants, the body, community helpers, inventions, sports, food, history and friendship, and in the nonfiction, about science, social studies and how things work: matter, volcanoes, electricity, government, bridges, cells, atoms and more. None is copied from a book, a test or another site.
How do you decide which grade a passage is for?
Each one is checked with the Flesch-Kincaid grade formula, and it has to fall inside a band set for its grade. Kindergarten and first grade must come out at 2.5 or lower, second at 3.5 or lower, third between 1.5 and 5, up to eighth, which must come out between 6.5 and 10. The formula is a guide, so look at the text yourself.
What do the questions cover?
Five to eight questions each. Some ask for something the text says, and some ask the reader to work something out. The answer key gives the answer in a form a teacher would accept.
Can students read them on their own screens?
Yes. Each page works on a phone or a laptop, and the Read it big switch is for the projector. Nothing is saved or sent.
