Small-group and center rotation chart v0.1.0

A rotation chart in a minute: name your centers, pick how many groups and the minutes at each, and print who is where and when. Every group visits every center once, and no center ever has two groups. Run it on the board and a timer moves everyone on and chimes. Free, no sign-up.

Centers (4)
Name each center by its activity. Groups are named by color and animal, so no names go in.

How to use it

  1. Name each center by its activity: teacher table, word work, math games.
  2. Pick how many groups (up to one a center) and the minutes at each center.
  3. Set the start time and print the chart for the wall.
  4. Press Run it on the board: the projector shows where each group is now and chimes when it is time to move.

Ideas for class

  • Keep your own small group at the teacher table: it is always one of the centers.
  • Post the printed chart by the door so students check it themselves.
  • Use 12 to 15 minutes in K–2 and 15 to 20 in grades 3–5.
  • Write the group members on the printed chart by hand; the screen never needs names.

Questions

How does a center rotation work?

The class splits into small groups, and each group spends the same time at each center before moving on, so by the end every group has done every center once.

Why colors and animals for the groups?

So no one in the class has to be typed into a website. Write the names on the printed chart by hand.
