To save a PDF, choose Print, then “Save as PDF” as the printer. Only the sheets print.

The way through takes 31 squares and there are 51 blind alleys to avoid. The solutions are the last pages.

How to use it

  1. Pick a size. 6 × 6 suits the youngest solvers, 15 × 15 and up a challenge for older ones. Each size is a square grid.
  2. Pick a difficulty. Easy has a short, direct way through and plenty of short dead ends. Hard has one long winding way from one side to the other.
  3. Choose how many different mazes you need (up to 10), then press Print. The solution pages come last, so you can keep them back.
  4. Press “Make another” for a new maze of the same size and difficulty.

Ideas for class

  • Early finishers: keep a stack of mazes at the back of the room, a harder one for each time a student comes back for more.
  • Fine-motor warm-up: a 6 × 6 maze and a thick marker for the youngest writers, tracing the path before handwriting.
  • Sub plans: a maze with the answer on page two needs no explanation.
  • Differentiate without labels: print an Easy maze and a Hard one of the same size and hand them out, the sheets look alike.
  • Problem solving talk: ask students to find where a wrong turn first went wrong, and to trace back to the last place they had a choice.
  • Make one for the lesson: put the unit’s title at the top, such as “Water cycle maze”, and let the maze be the reward at the end.

Questions

Does every maze have exactly one way through?

Yes. Every square can be reached and there are no loops, so there is one route from the start to the finish and the solution page shows it.

What makes a maze Easy or Hard?

Two things. Easy grows many short branches and uses the nearest pair of openings across the maze, so the way through is short. Hard grows long winding corridors and uses the farthest pair, so the way through is long.

Can I get the same maze again?

Yes. The maze is made from a number that is printed on the sheet, and Share copies a link that holds your settings and that number, so the same link always gives the same maze.

Can I make a different maze for each group?

Yes. Set “How many different mazes” and every maze gets its own page and its own solution page. For a single new maze press “Make another”.

Are other shapes available?

Not yet. For now every maze is a square grid.

Is anything sent to your server?
