To save a PDF, choose Print, then “Save as PDF” as the printer. Only the sheets print.

10 cards on 2 sheets, 4 pages with the backs.

Printing both sides: choose “double-sided, flip on long edge” in the print window. The backs are already mirrored so each lines up behind its front.

How to use it

  1. Type one card a line with a colon between the term and its meaning (“habitat: where an animal lives”). A two-column paste from a spreadsheet works too.
  2. Choose 6, 8 or 10 cards a page, with cut lines and card numbers if you want them.
  3. Press Print and choose double-sided, flip on the long edge. The backs are mirrored so each lines up behind its front. Cut along the dashed lines.
  4. Or press “Flip through on the board”: Space turns the card, the arrow keys move, S shuffles.

Ideas for class

  • Vocabulary study sets: one deck for each unit, printed on card stock and kept in a zip bag.
  • Math facts: put the problem on the front and the answer on the back, then drill in pairs.
  • Sight words for the youngest: leave the back blank and use the cards for flash practice and games.
  • Review warm-up: flip through the deck on the board for the first five minutes of class and let students call out the meanings.
  • Student-made decks: groups write cards for a chapter, swap decks and quiz each other.

Questions

How do I print the cards on both sides?

Press Print, then in the print window turn on two-sided printing and choose “flip on long edge”. The backs page is already mirrored, so each meaning lands behind its term. If your printer cannot print both sides, print the fronts, put the stack back in the tray as your printer’s manual says, and print the backs.

How many cards can I make?

Up to 120 cards in a deck. A sheet holds 6, 8 or 10.

What if a card has no meaning?

It prints with a blank back, which is handy for sight words or for cards students fill in.

Is my list saved or sent anywhere?

No. The cards are made in your browser, and your last deck is remembered on this computer only. Share copies a link that holds the deck after the # sign, which our server never receives.

Can I use it on the projector?

Yes. “Flip through on the board” shows one card in very large type. Press F for full screen, Space to turn the card over.
