Animated timer
A free animated countdown timer for the classroom, in ten pictures: the animation fills the screen and the clock is a small chip. Counts down or up, any length, with a sound at the end.
5:00
How to use it
- Pick one of the ten pictures below, or press S to go through them. Each one is the time rather than a decoration beside it.
- Set a length with the presets or Custom, then press Start. Press U to count up to the time instead of down to zero.
- Press F for full screen on the projector, C to move or hide the clock chip, and M for the sound.
Ideas for class
- Animate the part of the day that needs no words: tidying up, lining up, settling after lunch.
- Choose a picture made of countable things for a class that cannot read a clock yet.
- Choose one that arrives rather than empties when the end of the timer is a beginning for the class.
- Bookmark the address once you have set a length: the link carries the picture, the length and the direction.

Questions
What is an animated timer?
A countdown where a picture carries the time instead of digits: here a gorilla works through a pizza, a rocket burns its fuel, a train crosses to its station. The number is still on the screen as a small chip, and you can move it or hide it.
Is an animated timer better for young children?
It is easier to read without numbers, which is why these pictures are made of countable things: eight slices, twelve gumballs, eight books. Whether it suits your class is your call; the plain countdown timer and the shrinking disc are a tap away.
Does it cost anything or need an account?
No. Every page here is free, has no ads, needs no sign-in, and sends nothing about your class anywhere.
