  • Best for a full phonics sequence with decodables
  • Free

Companion resources for each lesson of the UFLI Foundations phonics sequence, grouped in units from A-J and lessons 1-34 up to 119-128: slide decks, decodable passages, homework sheets, and games and activities for more practice, with a Home Support tab. The page calls them free resources the team is still building out. The copyright page lets you print the Printable Resources for non-commercial use in your classroom, school or district.

The page calls the toolbox free resources; the teacher's manual is sold separately (as of 2026-10-31).

Watch for The resources follow the UFLI manual, which is sold separately, and the copyright page says printables and decodable passages may not be altered or shared outside your district.

2. Peabody Teach phonics worksheet maker

Peabody Teach

  • Ours
  • Best for unlimited sheets with a key and two versions
  • Free

Phonics sheets in teaching order for twelve patterns: short a to u (CVC), magic e, sh ch th, blends, ai ay, ee ea, oa ow and ar or. Seven kinds of sheet: circle the word for the picture, missing letters, sort, build with cut-out letters, word ladders, read the sentence and write the word. Every word comes from the pattern or one taught before it, pictures are used only where one picture is clear, and each sheet has versions A and B, a key, or the whole pack at once.

Free, no account and no ads; Peabody is free through the end of 2026 (as of 2026-10-31).

Watch for Twelve patterns stop at r-controlled ar and or, so later vowel teams and multisyllable words are not covered yet, and there are no decodable passages, only sentences.

How we chose

We weighed these, most important first. The order is our judgement against them, not a score or a vote, and a different teacher could reasonably order it differently. Our own tool sits where those criteria put it; we built it after studying the others, so read its entry with that in mind.

  1. Follows a teaching order. Whether sheets follow a phonics sequence, so every word is one a child taught that pattern can sound out, rather than a loose mix.
  2. Really free. Whether the sheets are free with no monthly cap, and whether you must sign up or join a newsletter to download.
  3. Range of patterns and sheets. How far it goes past short vowels (digraphs, blends, magic e, vowel teams, r-controlled) and how many kinds of practice it gives.
  4. Answer keys and versions. Whether a key comes with the sheet and whether there is a second version for practice or a check.
  5. Ads and terms of use. Whether the page shows ads, and what the terms let a teacher do with the sheets.

We took no money, free products or affiliate commissions for any place on this list, and no link here carries a tracking code. Every fact was read on the maker’s own page on October 31, 2026; prices carry that date because they change. See how we choose and the ad-free promise.

Questions

What are CVC words?
Consonant-vowel-consonant words such as cat, pen and sun: three sounds a beginning reader can blend. They are usually the first phonics pattern taught, one short vowel at a time.
In what order should phonics be taught?
Most programs start with short vowels in CVC words, then digraphs (sh, ch, th), blends, magic e, vowel teams and r-controlled vowels. UFLI's toolbox follows its own lesson order; Peabody's maker uses twelve patterns in that broad order.
Are these different from decodable books?
Yes. Worksheets give practice with one pattern; decodable books give a whole text to read with it. See our Top list of decodable book series for those.
Where can I find worksheets for other subjects?
Our Top 10 free worksheet websites and Top 14 free worksheet generators cover math, reading and more.
