About this set
Thirteen words for the last week of school, each with a clue about something every student has seen: a book of class photos and memories, your name written by hand in a friend’s book, a paper that shows you finished school, a small metal cabinet for your things. The answers cover the ceremony (graduation, diploma, certificate, cap), the keepsakes (yearbook, autograph, scrapbook, memories), the room (locker) and the feelings (goodbye, party, vacation, summer). The clues are warm and plain, and the crossword gives students a calm way to think about the year as they pack up. Turn off the word bank for sixth grade.
Grades: 2nd to 6th grade. Best in: May, June.

How to use it: five ideas
- Packing-up puzzle: leave the crossword on desks while students clear cubbies, so there is something to do when they finish.
- Memory page: after solving, students write one sentence about a favorite memory for each of three answers.
- Sign each other’s: students solve, then use the autograph and yearbook answers to sign three classmates’ crosswords.
- Thank-you clues: students write a new clue for “teacher” or “friends” and give the puzzle to someone they want to thank.
- Field-day rest stop: put a stack of crosswords and pencils in the shade for students who need a break from the games.

Questions
Can I use it for pre-K or kindergarten graduation?
Yes, as a read-aloud for the whole class: read each clue and let the group call out the answer while you write it on the board. Delete the longest words (graduation, certificate) to make it shorter.
Can I add our school’s traditions?
Yes. Add a line with a word, a colon and a clue (Mascot: The animal that is our school’s symbol) and the crossword rebuilds with it.
Can I change the words and clues?
Yes. Each of the 13 lines is a word, a colon and its clue. Edit any of them, and the crossword is rebuilt with new numbers.
How do I save it as a PDF?
Press Print and choose “Save as PDF” as the printer. The puzzle is page one and the answer key is page two.
How do I get a different layout?
Press “Make another”. The same words and clues are placed in a new arrangement, so each table can have its own puzzle.
