Top 20 random name picker and wheel websites for the classroom (2026)

Checked October 2026For Teachers, Homeschool and parentsKind Free websitesNo affiliate links, no paid placement. How we chose

One entry, Peabody Teach Wheel spinner, is our own free tool. It is marked Ours and ranked against the same criteria as the others.

Quick answer

Wheel of Names is our number one: every premium feature is free, it saves your wheel on your own device unless you choose the cloud, and it has the most sounds, pictures and settings. Peabody's own wheel now comes second: no ads, no sign-in, names kept in the browser, with clicking pegs, a big reveal, turns you can see and a printable paper spinner. Random Wheel Spin and Seating Chart Maker's wheel also keep names in the browser. Several sites do not say where names go, so use first names or initials.

1. Wheel of Names

Wheel of Names

  • Best for the full show at no cost
  • Free

The best-known free spinning wheel. Its pages list weighted entries, several wheels on one page, a library of more than 150 sounds and music tracks, pictures from your own files or a built-in photo gallery, confetti, a Remove button for winners and a classroom guide. The FAQ says wheels are saved on your device after every change, and Save lets you choose cloud storage or a local file.

The home page and FAQ say all premium features are free, with no paywalls, and that the site takes no payments or donations.

Watch for The site shows ads, which you can close for your session or avoid in full-screen mode. Cloud saving needs a login and, per the FAQ, stores wheels in a Google database in US data centers.

Visit Wheel of Names ↗  Facts read on the maker’s page.

2. Peabody Teach Wheel spinner

Peabody Teach

  • Ours
  • Best for a fair, ad-free class wheel with a show
  • Free

A free prize wheel built for a class. Pegs click past a flapper in five sound packs made in the browser, and the winning slice lifts out for a big reveal with confetti and an optional read-aloud. Fade the winner keeps everyone's slice on the wheel and shows how many have had a turn; absent children can be marked away for the day. A slice can hide a note after a bar, an emoji draws a picture, children can flick the wheel, and the list prints as a paper spinner. The winner is drawn first with the browser's secure random generator, and a 1,000-spin check shows it. Names stay in this browser, and twenty ready-made wheels, a gumball-machine name picker and a group maker sit alongside.

Free, no sign-in and no ads; Peabody is free through the end of 2026 (as of 2026-10-29).

Watch for Pictures are emoji only (no uploads), there are no weighted slices and one wheel per page, and it holds up to 1,000 entries in English only. Wheel of Names still has far more sounds, music and settings.

Visit Peabody Teach Wheel spinner ↗

3. Random Wheel Spin

Random Wheel Spin

  • Best for review questions hidden behind each slice
  • Free

A free wheel where each entry can hide a question, answer or task that appears after the spin. The page lists text, colour, picture and sound for each entry, confetti or fireworks on a win, a Speak Result option, an automatic remove-the-result setting and a results history. It says wheels can be made and saved in the browser without a login, and an embedded wheel shows no ads.

The page says the main wheel tools are free to use and no sign-up is required, and it mentions no paid plan.

Watch for The page says you hide the ads by going full screen, so ads show in the normal view. It also describes wheels sent through its custom-wheel form as shared with the community, so keep student names out of that form.

Visit Random Wheel Spin ↗

4. Wheel of Names by Seating Chart Maker

Seating Chart Maker

  • Best for a private, ad-free wheel with sounds and themes
  • Free

A free wheel from a seating chart site. The page says it has no ads and needs no registration, and that it runs locally in your browser and never sends its content to the maker's servers. It has soft tick sounds you can mute, light and dark looks, up to six slice colours, three spin lengths, a Remove winner tick that is remembered, bookmarks that save a whole wheel, and share links and embeds.

The page says it is free, with no ads and no registration.

Watch for Share links carry your list unencrypted, so anyone with the link can read it, and the page leaves room for only about 2,000 characters in a shared wheel. The page does not mention confetti or pictures.

Visit Wheel of Names by Seating Chart Maker ↗

5. Picker Wheel

Picker Wheel

  • Best for calling on everyone once with plenty of controls
  • Free plan, paid upgrades

A free wheel with the longest settings list here: spin speed and length, a manual stop button, confetti on or off, read-aloud for results, weights, colours and pictures per entry. Its elimination mode, Hide Choice, drops a picked entry from the next round so you can call on students without repeats. A link leads to a separate Team Picker Wheel. By default progress autosaves to your browser's local storage.

The free part: The wheel works with no sign-in. A free Subscriber account saves up to 15 files, and the free plan limits collected results to 10.

Premium removes ads and adds custom sounds, HD picture upload and more saved files; the page we read showed no price.

Watch for Free users see ads. The page says clearing browser history or cache erases your wheel, and only the active wheel is kept for next time.

Visit Picker Wheel ↗

6. Classroomscreen Randomizer

Classroomscreen

  • Best for a teacher who already runs a class display
  • Free plan, paid upgrades

A classroom display of widgets whose Randomizer shows one name at a time or a multicoloured wheel, with optional sound effects and animation. A Remember chosen students setting stops repeats until everyone has had a turn, and the Group maker widget builds groups from the same name lists. The page says you can try it with no login.

The free part: Basic is $0 a month with all 26 widgets, the template library and three saved name lists.

Pro is $3 a month, billed yearly at $36 (as of 2026-10-29).

Watch for Free Basic saves three name lists. The pages we read did not say where name lists are stored or whether they sync between devices.

Visit Classroomscreen Randomizer ↗  Facts read on the maker’s page.

7. ClassTools Random Name Picker

ClassTools

  • Best for a wheel or fruit-machine view that shows who is left
  • Free plan, paid upgrades

A spinning wheel for a list of names, with 11 wheel themes, four curtain colours, a switch to a fruit-machine style view, a sound toggle and full screen. You can show the full list or only the names that remain, and share the picker by link, embed code or QR code.

The free part: The site describes itself as offering free tools for teachers and students, and the picker page lets you spin straight away.

Premium removes ads and opens all templates; we did not see its price.

Watch for Free users see ads and an invitation to go Premium, and the page did not say where saved name lists are stored or how many names a list can hold.

Visit ClassTools Random Name Picker ↗

8. Flippity Random Name Picker

Flippity

  • Best for groups, teams and seating charts as well as picking
  • Price varies

Flippity turns a Google Sheet into a name picker, or builds a page from names you type in its Quick and Easy option. The spinner wheel picks names, and the Single Name and Lineup tabs make sure each student is picked once before any repeats. The site's front page also lists groups of up to 15, teams, jigsaw groups, seating charts, printable rosters and gift exchange lists.

The pages we read did not mention pricing.

Watch for The Google Sheets version needs a Google account to copy the template, and the pages we read said nothing about ads, privacy or where names are stored.

Visit Flippity Random Name Picker ↗

9. Online-Stopwatch name pickers

Online-Stopwatch

  • Best for a new-looking picker every week
  • Free plan, paid upgrades

A page of about 28 animated name pickers: a name picker wheel, a wall of boxes, a magic hat, a crane claw, a cog machine, whack-a-mole, scratchcards and skill pickers where you stop a moving line. The page says the visual pickers feature sounds and are free to use, and the wheel offers ready-made lists such as animals, fruit and US states.

The free part: Free users can enter up to 100 names in each name picker.

Premium is $24 for 12 months with no auto-renewal, $10 for a one-month trial, or $96 a year for a group of 30 accounts (as of 2026-10-29).

Watch for Free users see ads, which Premium removes. The pages we read did not say where names are stored, and the wheel and wall are capped at 1,000 names even on Premium.

Visit Online-Stopwatch name pickers ↗

10. Super Teacher Tools Online Spinner

Super Teacher Tools

  • Best for a quick custom spinner saved as a web address
  • Free

A free set of classroom tools. The Online Spinner lets you type your own labels, edit the text above the wheel and pick one of six colour schemes, then save the spinner by copying its web address. A separate Random Name Generator draws from a class list of up to 100 students in a different order every time, and a Group Maker makes groups of two to five.

The home page says everything on the site is free.

Watch for The pages we read did not say whether the class-list tools need an account, whether the spinner plays sounds, or where names are stored.

Visit Super Teacher Tools Online Spinner ↗  Facts read on the maker’s page.

11. CommentPicker Random Name Picker

CommentPicker

  • Best for a confetti wheel with nothing stored by default
  • Free plan, paid upgrades

A picker with several reveals: a wheel, spinning names, a countdown or none. It offers wheel colour palettes, a font list, sound and confetti switches, a duplicate filter and a setting that stops a winner being picked twice. The page says your lists are only available on your device and that no results are stored unless you make a public page or certificate.

The free part: Free is $0 a month with unlimited names, lists kept on your device and up to three winners at once.

Premium is $9.99 a month (as of 2026-10-29).

Watch for The page's comparison table marks the free version as not ad-free, and the wheel picks one winner at a time. The page talks about raffles, results pages and certificates rather than classes.

Visit CommentPicker Random Name Picker ↗

12. MyWheelName

My Wheel Name

  • Best for importing a class list from Google Classroom
  • Free

A free wheel with ready-made lists such as Yes or No and Rock Paper Scissors, colour presets, a setting to remove winners after each spin and an Elimination feature that goes through every name in turn. A Multi wheel picks two names at once. You can paste names or import them from text, CSV and Google Classroom, and the page says the tool runs entirely in your browser.

The page says there is no paid tier holding anything back.

Watch for You need to sign in to save and share wheels, and the page we read did not say where saved wheels are stored, whether there are ads, or how many names fit.

Visit MyWheelName ↗

13. AhaSlides name wheel

AhaSlides

  • Best for students joining by code on their own devices
  • Free plan, paid upgrades

A name wheel where the host shares a code and people who join are added to the wheel automatically, with no login for them. You can change the wheel's theme, colour, font and logo, set how long it spins, duplicate entries and use a built-in generator of popular US first names. It can be combined with the maker's live quizzes and polls.

The free part: The page calls the name wheel spinner free, and people who join need no login.

The page links to a pricing page but shows no figures.

Watch for The page did not say whether the host must sign up, whether it plays sounds or how names are stored, and the wheel is part of a larger live-quiz product.

14. SpinTheWheel.io

SpinTheWheel.io

  • Best for several wheels spinning at once
  • Free

A free name wheel with 50 ready-made themes, music and sound effects you can change, a colour palette, spin duration and images on entries. Up to eight wheels fit on one page and can spin one by one or together. Names can be typed one per line or pasted from a spreadsheet column or text file.

Watch for The page did not say who makes it, whether there are ads or sign-ins, or where names are stored.

15. Wordwall Spin the wheel

Wordwall

  • Best for a teacher who also wants quizzes on one login
  • Free plan, paid upgrades

An activity maker whose template list includes Spin the wheel, described as spinning to see which item comes up next. It sits alongside the maker's other activity templates, so the same login also gives you quizzes and games. The front page asks you to sign up to start creating.

The free part: Basic is free: up to 3 activities, 12 templates and basic sharing.

Standard is $7.20 a month or $57.60 billed yearly, and Pro is $10.80 a month or $86.40 billed yearly (as of 2026-10-29).

Watch for You need an account to make a wheel, free Basic stops at three activities, and the pages we read did not say whether Spin the wheel is among the 12 free templates.

Visit Wordwall Spin the wheel ↗  Facts read on the maker’s page.

16. Education Copilot Random Name Picker

Education Copilot

  • Best for no-repeat draws from reusable class lists
  • Free

A free tool for teachers that keeps reusable class lists, with a separate list for each period. It has a no-repeat mode so everyone is picked before any name repeats, a way to bring picked students back or start a fresh cycle, random small groups or partners, optional odds weighting and a wheel you can project for the room.

The page says it is free for teachers.

Watch for The page did not say whether you must sign in or where class lists are stored, and its claim that teachers unconsciously call on some students more is given without a source.

Visit Education Copilot Random Name Picker ↗

17. Teach Starter Random Name Picker

Teach Starter

  • Best for teachers who already use Teach Starter
  • Price varies

A name picker from a teaching-resource site, with a spinning wheel. You type names, spin, and click remove name as each is read out so it does not come up again. Class lists can be saved to a Word Lists tab in your Gallery for later.

The page lists it under free resources but also shows an Upgrade to use button, and gives no price.

Watch for The page did not make clear whether the picker works without an account or a paid membership, and it did not mention ads, sounds or where names are stored.

18. Games4ESL Spin the Wheel

Games4ESL

  • Best for ready-made phonics and vocabulary wheels
  • Free

A free spinner wheel for teachers with more than 50 ready-made topics, such as alphabet and phonics, vocabulary, questions and writing prompts, and your own lists with one entry per line. After each spin you can keep the item on the wheel or remove it, which the page suggests for bingo.

The page calls it a free spinner wheel.

Watch for The page shows Remove Ads links, so ads appear, and it did not say whether it plays sounds, saves lists or where entries are stored.

19. RandomPicker.com Random Name Picker

RandomPicker

  • Best for a quick private pick with no frills
  • Free

A plain list picker rather than a wheel: paste up to 300 names, one per line, and it picks one at a time, with a button to choose again from the names that remain or start over. The page says no sign-up is needed, nothing is saved or sent anywhere, and the names never leave your computer.

The page calls the tool free; the maker's main platform has free and paid plans.

Watch for It is a text list with no wheel, colours or animation, and the page says nothing about ads.

20. Wheel Decide

Wheel Decide

  • Best for a one-off wheel with weights and your own colours
  • Free

A free online spinner with a title, up to 100 choices, a paste box, colour theme presets, spin seconds, wheel size and your own hex colours. It supports weights and an advanced option that removes a choice once it is landed on, and it gives an embed code for a square wheel.

The page calls it a free online spinner tool.

Watch for The page says to log in to save wheels, and it did not describe ads, what the sound toggle does or where data is stored.

Also good

  • MiniWebtool Random Name Picker Wheel: Wheel and list modes with a no-repeat setting and lists saved in your browser, but its list mode sends all names to its server for each draw (it says it does not store them), and the page says the site is free because of ads.
  • Random.org List Randomizer: Shuffles up to 10,000 items into a random order using atmospheric noise, and the page says it carries no ads. It has no wheel, and it advises against entering confidential information.
  • Namepicker.com: Pick and Remove and Pick and Keep modes plus a winners history, but at most 30 names of 20 characters, and the page says nothing about price, ads or storage.
  • SpinTheWheel.app: Calls itself a free online wheel maker; the page we read said nothing about sounds, saving, ads or where names are stored.
  • CalculatorSoup Random Name Picker: Takes up to 1,000 names and picks any number of them, with a switch for allowing repeats. It has no wheel, and the page did not describe privacy or ads.

How we chose

We weighed these, most important first. The order is our judgement against them, not a score or a vote, and a different teacher could reasonably order it differently. Our own tool sits where those criteria put it; we built it after studying the others, so read its entry with that in mind.

  1. Free for a whole class. Can a teacher spin a wheel or pick a name at no cost and with no card, and where does a paid plan start? Free tools rank above free tiers that stop at a small cap.
  2. A wheel worth watching. Sound, a win moment, pictures or hidden prompts, taking winners off, saved lists and other features that make a spin worth putting on the projector.
  3. Where the names are kept. Whether the maker's own page says names stay in the browser or on your device, or go to a server. If a page is silent we say so.
  4. No sign-in to start. Whether you can use the tool at once, or must log in before you can save or use it.
  5. Ads in front of the class. Whether the page mentions ads, and whether you can hide them when the screen is on the projector.

We took no money, free products or affiliate commissions for any place on this list, and no link here carries a tracking code. Every fact was read on the maker’s own page on October 29, 2026; prices carry that date because they change. See how we choose and the ad-free promise.

Questions

Do the names I type leave my computer?
Wheel of Names says wheels are saved on your device after every change and go to its cloud only if you click Save and choose Cloud. Picker Wheel, Random Wheel Spin and Seating Chart Maker say they keep wheels in the browser, and Peabody does the same. MiniWebtool's list mode sends names to its server. Several others did not say, so use first names or initials.
How do I call on every student without repeats?
Wheel of Names has a Remove button, Picker Wheel has Hide Choice, Classroomscreen has Remember chosen students, Seating Chart Maker has a Remove winner tick and Random Wheel Spin can remove each result automatically. Peabody's wheel can fade each winner so their slice stays put but cannot come up again until a new round, and skips children marked away today.
Which of these show ads?
Wheel of Names shows ads you can close for your session, Picker Wheel and CommentPicker show them to free users, and ClassTools, Online-Stopwatch and Games4ESL show ads too. Random Wheel Spin hides them in full screen. Seating Chart Maker and Peabody say they have none, and several pages did not mention ads.
Can I make random groups as well as pick one name?
Flippity lists groups of up to 15 and teams, Classroomscreen has a Group maker widget, Education Copilot draws small groups or partners, and Super Teacher Tools has a Group Maker for two to five. Picker Wheel links a separate Team Picker Wheel, and Peabody has a random group maker next to its wheel.
Is a spinning wheel really fair?
It can be. Wheel of Names says it uses the browser's secure random generator, not Math.random, and links a ten-thousand-spin test. Peabody draws the winner first with the same kind of generator and then turns the wheel to show it, so a longer spin changes nothing. Random Wheel Spin offers a hash-and-seed check.
Can I put pictures or hidden questions on the wheel?
Wheel of Names and Picker Wheel accept pictures, and SpinTheWheel.io lists images on entries. Random Wheel Spin hides a question, answer or task behind each entry and shows it after the spin, which suits vocabulary and review wheels. Peabody's wheel hides a note after a bar on each line and draws a leading emoji big on the slice.
