Who Invented the Light Bulb?: read-along

Who Invented the Light Bulb? as a read-along for the projector: 10 pages, 844 words, level 11, grade 6.

Who invented the light bulb? Ask almost anyone, and they will say Thomas Edison. But the rangers who care for his laboratory in New Jersey say it plainly: Edison did not invent the first light bulb. People were making bulbs before he was born. The trouble was that those bulbs burned out after a few minutes. A light that dies in minutes is a wonder, but it is not much use at suppertime. The real story has many more people in it than one.

Whose voice is it?

Your browser's own. Read to me uses a speaking voice already on the computer, so it sounds like that computer and works without a sign-in. Voices differ: some light each word as it is spoken, and some do not, in which case the highlight follows a steady pace instead. Some browsers use an online voice; if yours does, the browser, not us, sends the words of the page to its speech service. If no voice is installed, turn the pages and read it aloud yourself.

Do students need an account?
