Thirty-six weather words on unique printable cards, from sunny, cloudy and rainy to tornado, hurricane, thermometer and forecast, for a weather unit.
36 items · a 5 × 5 card with a free space needs 24 or more. More items make the cards differ. For review bingo, type answer | clue (“56 | 7 × 8”): the card shows the answer, the caller reads the clue. Two columns pasted from a spreadsheet work too. Start a line with an emoji (“🐶 dog”) for a picture square.

About this set
A weather unit builds in three layers, and this set follows them. The first layer is what the sky is doing today (sunny, cloudy, rainy, windy, snowy, stormy, foggy, and the sleet, hail, thunder, lightning and rainbow that go with them). The second is how we measure and predict it (thermometer, temperature, barometer, rain gauge, wind vane, humidity, forecast, meteorologist). The third is the big ideas: season, climate, water cycle, and the extreme events students hear about on the news (tornado, hurricane, blizzard, drought, flood, heat wave). Kindergartners can play with the first layer alone, and fourth graders can define the third.
Grades: Kindergarten to 5th grade. Best in: September, March, April.
Window check: when a weather word is called, ask the class whether it is happening outside right now, and keep a tally on the board across the week.
Instrument match: when thermometer, rain gauge, wind vane or barometer is called, students say what it measures before covering the square.
Safety talk: when tornado, lightning or hurricane is called, review in one calm minute what your school’s drill for that looks like.
Weather vs. climate: after the game, students sort the squares into what is happening today and what is true of a place over many years.
Kindergarten version: make 3 × 3 cards from sunny, cloudy, rainy, windy, snowy, foggy, rainbow, umbrella and raincoat and hold up a picture for each call.
What is the difference between weather and climate?
Weather is what the air is doing today in one place: rain, wind, heat. Climate is the usual pattern of weather in a place over many years. Both words are on the cards so students can practice telling them apart.
Are tornado and hurricane too frightening for young students?
They are plain nouns on a card. Many classes learn about them for safety, and you can delete any line (tornado, hurricane, flood) from the box if you would rather not use them with your group.
Can I change the words?
Yes. The 36 words are in the box above the cards. Delete, add or edit any line and the cards are rebuilt at once. Nothing is saved on our servers.
How do I call the game?
Press “Call the game”. Each press of the space bar tumbles the ball cage and pops out the next item in very large type, with the list of items already called beside it. Press C and type a card number to check a winner, P to change the win pattern, V to have each call read aloud, and F to fill the projector.
How do I save the cards as a PDF?
Press Print and choose “Save as PDF” as the printer. Each page can also be saved as a PNG picture from under its preview.
