Community Helpers Bingo Cards (free printable, 30 cards)
Thirty-six community helper jobs on unique printable cards: firefighters, nurses, mail carriers, plumbers and more, for a social studies unit on the people who help us.
36 items · a 5 × 5 card with a free space needs 24 or more. More items make the cards differ. For review bingo, type answer | clue (“56 | 7 × 8”): the card shows the answer, the caller reads the clue. Two columns pasted from a spreadsheet work too. Start a line with an emoji (“🐶 dog”) for a picture square.

30 different cards. No two are the same. The card number and set number on every card let the caller check a winner (press C while calling).
About this set
A community helpers unit teaches children that a town runs because many people each do a job, and this list covers the jobs a young child sees. There are the helpers who keep us safe (firefighter, police officer, paramedic, crossing guard, dispatcher), the ones who care for us (doctor, nurse, dentist, veterinarian, pharmacist), the ones at school (teacher, librarian, principal, custodian, cafeteria worker, bus driver), the ones who build and fix (plumber, electrician, mechanic, carpenter, construction worker) and the ones who bring food and services (farmer, baker, grocer, chef, mail carrier, garbage collector). Job names are gender-neutral so every child can picture themselves in each one.
Grades: Pre-K to 3rd grade. Best in: September, October, May.

How to play, and five ideas
What does a ___ do? When a job is called, a student explains in one sentence what that helper does for the community before covering the square.
Helper’s tool: call a tool or clue (“It carries a hose”) instead of the job name, and students cover the firefighter.
Family helpers: after the game, students draw a helper in their own family or street and tell the class one thing the job needs.
Visitor week: invite a helper from the list to visit your class, and use the cards to prepare questions beforehand.
Kindergarten version: make 3 × 3 cards from the nine jobs students see most (firefighter, police officer, doctor, nurse, teacher, mail carrier, bus driver, farmer, baker).
Why does the list say “mail carrier” and not “mailman”?
Gender-neutral names (firefighter, police officer, mail carrier, crossing guard) fit every worker and let all children see themselves in the job. They are also the names most picture books use now.
Can I add the helpers in our town?
Yes. Add the names of your school’s crossing guard, nurse or custodian, or local jobs such as a park ranger or a ferry captain, to the box, and the cards are rebuilt with them.
Can I change the words?
Yes. The 36 words are in the box above the cards. Delete, add or edit any line and the cards are rebuilt at once. Nothing is saved on our servers.
How do I call the game?
Press “Call the game”. Each press of the space bar tumbles the ball cage and pops out the next item in very large type, with the list of items already called beside it. Press C and type a card number to check a winner, P to change the win pattern, V to have each call read aloud, and F to fill the projector.
How do I save the cards as a PDF?
Press Print and choose “Save as PDF” as the printer. Each page can also be saved as a PNG picture from under its preview.
