About this set
Twenty words from the books and characters that children love around Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2: Horton, the Lorax, the Grinch, Whoville, Truffula, Yertle, the Sneetches, Sam-I-Am, and the rhyme and reading words (rhyme, silly, books, read, hat, eggs, ham, cat, fox, socks). The grid is 12 by 12 on Easy, with words across and down, so kindergarten and first grade can do it with a partner, and older students can switch to Medium or Hard. This is an unofficial classroom puzzle and is not made or endorsed by Dr. Seuss Enterprises.
Grades: Kindergarten to 3rd grade. Best in: March.

How to use it: five ideas
- Read-aloud first: read a Seuss book, then let students find the characters and words they just heard.
- Rhyme pairs: students find “hat” and “cat” and write three more words that rhyme with them.
- Short and long: students sort the found words by number of letters, shortest to longest.
- Read Across America: put a copy at the reading corner for students who finish early.
- Draw it: students pick one character from the puzzle and draw it with a rhyming caption.

Questions
Are these puzzles official?
No. This is a free classroom activity that uses the names of books and characters. It is not made, sponsored or endorsed by Dr. Seuss Enterprises.
Can I change the words?
Yes. Type the titles and characters from your own read-aloud into the box, and the puzzle rebuilds.
Can I change the words or the difficulty?
Yes. Edit the 20 words in the box, choose Easy, Medium or Hard, pick a grid size from 8 to 25 and a shape, and add a secret message if you like. The puzzle rebuilds as you change it, and any word that cannot fit is listed.
Can we play it on the board?
Yes. Press “Play on the board”: the class finds words by dragging across them or tapping the first and last letters, each find plays a note, and H gives a hint. Press F to fill the projector.
How do I save it as a PDF?
Press Print and choose “Save as PDF” as the printer. The puzzle is page one and the answer key is page two.
How do I get a different layout?
Press “Make another”. The same words are placed in a new arrangement, which is handy when neighbors should not have the same puzzle.
