Craft: Paper-bag cave (brown paper bag, a bear drawn or printed on card, cotton balls (snow), glue stick), with a grown-up. Snack: Teddy Bear Toast (swap: Bread → gluten-free bread; Peanut butter → sunflower seed butter), recipe at peabody.kids/kitchen/teddy-bear-toast. Outside: Walk around the yard on a bear hunt: over the log, through the grass, into the cave (under the slide).
This week: bears and hibernation
A winter week on bears for twos to fours: where bears sleep, why they sleep all winter, and a cozy cave day.
Our letter is B: B is for bear.
Our song is “Wee Willie Winkie”. The words are below, so you can sing it at home.
Our books: Not Yet, Ted, Dad Naps, The Black Cat, The Bear Who Could Not Sleep. The ones marked free can be read at peabody.kids, no sign-in.
Wee Willie Winkie
Wee Willie Winkie runs through the town, Upstairs and downstairs in his nightgown, Rapping at the window, crying through the lock, "Are the children all in bed, for now it's eight o'clock?"
Traditional; public domain.
Ask your child about…
- Ask your child why bears sleep all winter.
- Ask your child what they took into their cave.
