We checked this card's citation and the finding we state against the source's own page or record in October 2026.

What it found

A light-touch program in which teachers met in school-based learning communities to build formative assessment into everyday teaching raised pupils' results on national, externally marked exams by a small amount. It may have narrowed the gap between high and low prior attainers, but not the gap for disadvantaged pupils.

Effect size, as the source reports it: effect size 0.09 on national exam results (0.11 in sensitivity and complier analyses).
